Mapping Emergencies: 9-1-1 through to the EOC (David Hamilton, Daniel Stevens)

Speaker 1
David Hamilton is the Manager of Public Safety & GIS for E-Comm 9-1-1, southwest British Columbia’s emergency communication centre.  In this role, David ensures the public safety systems used at E-Comm meet the needs of both the general public in terms of 9-1-1 and those of E-Comm’s public safety clients.  David’s other focus is providing spatial data to public safety clients across the province.

Prior to joining E-Comm in 1999, David worked in the forest industry for several years for MacMillan Bloedel / Weyerhauser.  He currently sits on the Steering Committee for the Province’s Digital Road Atlas program, and also sits on the Governance Committee for AddressBC.

David has a BA (Geography) from Simon Fraser University, and an Advanced Diploma in GIS from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

Speaker 2
Daniel Stevens is currently the City of Vancouver's Manager of Emergency Planning. His current focus is on the readiness of the city's emergency operations centre, as well as on the city's emergency communications systems and emergency management information systems (EMIS). The EMIS is an integrated information management and GIS system to support situational awareness and emergency operations within the city.

Before joining the City of Vancouver, Daniel consulted for various public and private sector clients on emergency management related projects. He has also volunteered in the emergency management field in a number of capacities and is the SW Region Director for the British Columbia Association of Emergency Managers.

Daniel has an M.Sc. in geography (geospatial analysis and modelling) from Simon Fraser University and an Hon.B.A. in urban geography and geographic information systems from the University of Toronto.
