Why Open Data is Not Enough

Kevin Jardine joined the ministry of Citizens’ Services in January, 2010 as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Business and Workforce Transformation.
Prior to this, Kevin worked in the Premier’s Office as Deputy Cabinet Secretary and Assistant Deputy Minister for Cabinet Operations. And from 2005 to 2008, he was an Assistant Deputy Minister in the Integrated Land Management Bureau.
A public servant in the Provincial Government for almost ten years, Kevin has held several technical and management positions. Starting first as Lands and Resource Analyst in support of First Nations’ treaty negotiations, Kevin then worked as the Kootenay Regional Manager in Nelson for the previous Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management before returning to Victoria in 2005 to assume an Executive role in the Integrated Land Management Bureau.
Over the past several years, Kevin has successfully led the development and implementation of many corporate and Cabinet-endorsed strategies in subject areas as diverse as Mountain Caribou recovery, species and ecosystem conservation, and the establishment of GeoBC as a leading public sector organisation in the area of geographic information management and provision.
Kevin has a keen interest in technology and public sector service transformation. Building on his academic training as a Geographer, work in the private sector and his experience over the last decade as a Public Servant, Kevin is now helping government achieve its vision for a 21 st century public sector.
