The PLAN TALK VII - GIS in Planning event was sponsored jointly by:

URISA – the BC Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association and
the Planning Institute of BC/UBC School of Community and Regional Planning.

The purpose of the event was to introduce the latest GIS technology and resources available to planners and demonstrate through practical examples, how GIS can assist planners in their daily tasks. This event focussed on:

  • Exploring the use of GIS in the review and update of the Zoning Bylaws of the City of Vernon and illustrate the use of GIS in data capture, data analysis, and providing public access to information.
  • Introducing the latest software to enable community planners and natural resource managers to compare(2D), visualize(3D), and forecast(4D) land-use alternatives in real-time.

A panel of experienced practitioners were on hand to support discussion and answer questions.

Thank you to all who attended this event. Thanks also to our Presenters and Sponsors. Events like this are successful because of all of you. We hope this event was as beneficial to you as it was to the attendants.

We look forward to seeing you at the next event.
